• The "natural" red dye used by companies is cochineal. Cochineal is dried, crushed beetles scraped from cacti. It is used to color Ocean Spray Ruby Red juice, many yogurts, maraschino cherries... I have had to cut all those from my diet. I am vegan and that doesn't cut it. In fact, does anyone like c …

• I would also like you to be aware that cochineal is also known as k-carmine or just carmine. If you see it in your food, complain.

• And your point is? I'm vegan. Shrimp, crayfish and lobster disgust me just as much as bugs.

• I wasn't asking anyone to accommodate my vegan-ism. Where are you getting that? I want people to be aware that "natural" red dye can be bugs. Most people don't know that and when I tell them, they are horrified. Food companies try to hide it. The FDA needs to require better labeling. It's their JOB.
